Dental Insurance
I must be completely honest here, I don’t like dentists. It’s nothing personal, in fact, I have a pretty good friend who’s a dentist (although I didn’t know he was until we’d met a couple of times and I’d already decided he was okay), anyway, he complained one day that, when he decided on his future career he had no idea that he’d be so unpopular – what planet does he live on? As far as I’m concerned, dentists cause pain and you have to pay for the privilege, although to be fair they are much more civilized these days than the “butchers” which are responsible for my lifelong phobia.
Dental Insurance
Enough of my mad ramblings, dental insurance is a really good idea, I mean, dental treatment is getting more and more expensive these days, even a routine dental check-up can be quite pricey so if you have sufficient dental insurance to cover those costs and make regular visits – you can go to the dentist every time you need to instead of waiting until you have a gaping hole and are popping elephant sized painkillers at regular 20 minute intervals – because that’s when it hurts even more.
Dental insurance can help with the costs of routine treatment, serious dental problems and dental emergencies (help, I’ve just cracked my tooth on a piece of pork crackling – why does that always happen on Friday evenings, Christmas Eve or the day before Thanksgiving, just when everywhere is going to be closed for days and you have to pay even more for the painful privilege?)
Dental insurance does mean that you can choose your own dentist (some are much kinder than others and understand your fear, others seem to thrive on it), the premiums shouldn’t increase with your age and you can often choose to pay quarterly if you don’t want to cough up the whole lot upfront.
The American Dental Association provides information on oral health for you.
Do shop around when you are choosing your dental insurance policy. You can find a dental plan online. Dental insurance is generally tailor made to suit your individual needs, but shop around and make sure that you’re getting the best deal. Will the insurance company pay the dentist directly for your treatment, for example, or will you have to pay for the treatment and then claim the money back.
All of these things need to be discussed before you make your final decision.
Your teeth are very important and deserve to be well looked after. They’re important to your appearance and also to your health, and having an adequate dental insurance policy can ensure that it’s one less thing for you to worry about. Open wide . . . Ahhhh!
